Lavender Sevtopolis

Lavender comes from the Mediterranean. As a wild plant found in North Africa, southern France, Spain and the Dalmatian coast. Natural deposits are usually located around 2000 meters altitude. The main producers of lavender oil are France, Spain, Moldova and Bulgaria.

It grows best in poor, calcareous and sandy soils, but annual fertilization with mineral fertilizers. Unsuitable for lavender are acidic soils and soils with high groundwater. Most suitable for soils with lavender are neutral and alkaline reaction (pH 6 to 8).

Lavender has a well-developed root system and can be grown on the slopes. The root system is highly developed, such as the mass is located in the layer 0-40 cm.

Skeletal roots reach four meters. This feature makes the plant suitable for reinforcement against soil erosion. The flowers are small, bisexual, located in the ring truss class, colored in white, pink, violet or blue. There are 4 stamens.

In intervening two years after planting, as productivity increases to 10 years of age, after which yields begin to decline. The duration of flowering depends on the care they are entitled to plantations.

Sort Sevthopolis - Mid-early variety with a high content of essential oil 2.7% and organic extraction of oil an average of 150 kg / ha. Average yield flowers is 6250 kg / ha.

Lavender plants in Bulgaria are widely planted throughout the country and is accepted as standard. 

It is suitable for mechanized cultivation and harvesting, which is very well in the times of hard finding people to work in the fields.
